Subpar damage.....
in Elementalist
Posted August 21
The whole edging thing needs a rework imo. The etching self should add additional damage effects to the spells that are used to etch it out. Right now it just feels slow and does not pack the punch thats needed for the time investment.
and fresh air tempest is 40% air overload dps wise, thats one skill carrying the spec, you could bench 40k with a hammer.

Ranger actually does have some problems that its players have been complaining about for years… most notably how bad the pet AI is…
regarding the “QoL mechanic of using stealth skills while revealed”… its not actually a QoL mechanic… ranger spear was just very poorly thought out. Having stealth skills on 2-5 is a neat idea on paper, but in practice it is actually detrimental and largely non-functional. It is all to easy to burn tour stealth with an auto-attack, and Ranger has a lot of delayed damage and continual damage abilities that will end their stealth prematurely. It was clear that the “new innovative mechanic” of Ranger spear was non-functional and was going to need something to fix it.
besides the pet ai certainly a problem, thieves dont have! You should try playing something else than ranger sometimes.

Here we go again
The warrior mains will say warrior. The guardian mains will say guardian. The revenant mains will say revenant. The ranger mains will say ranger. The thief mains will say thief. The engi mains will say engi. The ele mains will say ele. The necro mains will say necro. The mesmer mains will say mesmer.
So if we go by the specific subforums for the classes. The devs dont play this game at all.
You have to avoidevery class. Good luck!
Nobody will say ranger, ranger is just a bloated and absurdly stuffed profession. All classes are more or less the same favored except for ranger, ranger is for some reason getting stuff other classes are lacking for years. Like qol mechanics as using stealth skills while revealed.
so if you want your treats every balance or expac, play ranger. Its the easiest class in the game and has a truckload of viable builds.

Matchmaking thing... Heavy problem!

Hello, I started playing 3 months ago, and started playing pvp 1 week ago, I got experience in other MMORPG's in PvP and I cant say I am a PRO gw2 pvper but atleast I understand the basics, mechanics and etc I am not a complete dumbo in case of that.
So in Ranked arena I dont understand how Matchmaking works I got to Gold 1/2 and its disgusting enemies are insane players all the time who cant even take any damage and oneshot kill everything...
and that happens 8 times out of 10.
there is no Role Selection for the teams in rankeds which surprised me a lot, if enemy team has 1 roamer 1 healer 3 dps how our team of 5 roamers can fight them or vice versa idk whats meta now.
I mostly play Necro Reaper from metabattle build condi necro balanced build was the name, and yes I do kill people and get involved in fights but my god matchmaking is unbalanced. what is the point of having a Ranks and Divisions if in Gold 1 you are getting matched against 5+ years experienced PvPers and it does not happen once in a while its mostly every match...When you dont have role selection in Ranked pvp you are literally betting on RNG gods to give a support/healer in team...
idk why is this not adressed, most people tell me devs dont care bout pvp coz there are not much people playing it, well... its a lie - lobbies are all the time full, and people actively play PvP.
there are tournaments and even some names in streaming community spectate those games and comment them...I brought 9 friends into this game with me and all of us enjoy it, but seeing this state of PvP ranked arena just hurts a lot...
Please dont take this as an offense op:
i had a similar experience when i started pvp, fact was that i thought i would understand the game, which I clearly didn’t. At least i was far away from knowing every spec. I had a nice streak after weak one of spvp and climbed to g2 where i got merciless corrected down to s2 . Man was i pissed but u felt challenged and now, about a year later i am hovering between g3/p1 and slowly start to feel that i understand the game. Give it time.
the matchmaking can be absolutely bollocks, especially at off hours or when its actively abused which is rather easy as how duos and class distribution works teamwise and the fact that you can switch character when the game starts. But thats something that i, when i encountered it, happend in higher tier games especially when ppl from the leaderboard were involved.

That's not what I'm saying. Look:
- I just went in game to test on my Tempest. I can rotate from F1 to F2 to F3 to F4 and not use autos at all, only use the good skills, and I can spam every skill in every attunement and go to the next attunement and spam every skill and keep doing this, and there is never a downtime where I have to spam autos to fill in time or the only skills I have to use are utilities.
- Then I went on a DP Daredevil. You can IMMEDIATELY bottom out your init with a couple shortbow 5s, or after a few seconds of staying in combat. There are many times where if you stay in combat, your init bottoms out and you have to fill in space with autos or use utility skills to completely disengage for reset, and during this time your DPS output goes to a complete halt.
- Went on Spellbreaker, and despite 5s weapon swap trait, the fact of the matter is that some of those skills have long CDs. So if you go ham and start using weapon skills back to back with no hesitation, you get stuck in situations where you swap back to a weapon after 5s but 2 or 3 of your skills are still on CD and you're working with only the low CD skills. You swap to other side, same thing happens. And there is a lot of time that needs to be filled with autos.
An Ele can keep casting it's 2, 3, 4, 5 skills in every attunement, never using autos, swap between each attunement in a cycle, and always have CDs to use that are not autos. What I was pointing out about this, is that an Ele's idea of "preserving CDs" is about knowing how to direct the flow of this, but it always has non-auto weapon skills to use. The Ele's idea of "wasting CDs" is when you swap to an attunement at the wrong time, but even when you do this or switch attunements after, you're still always having non auto weapon skills to use all the time.
What I was saying is that an Ele, although it could "technically waste a CD at a bad time" it doesn't actually run out of weapon skills. It can literally spam weapon skills 100% of the time. Most other classes cannot do this, and they actually have to stop and wait and slow down the usage of their CDs.
I'm not saying it's OP dude, I'm just explaining to that other guy why Ele weapon skills aren't all loaded like Heartseeker or a Ranger Maul. it's just how they have to balance that rotating cycle of Ele attacks.
Yeah if you are playing ele with that mindset, rotating your skills constantly through just because its possible, will get you instagibbed in g1+ games. Eles kit is spread over 20 skills, 26 if weaver, so the the skills arent that bloated offense or defense - wise as those of other professions. U need to use ele skills like a scalpel, with precision and yes a solid ele build mostly has a scalpel for every situation but due to class mechanics they arent always available when you need them, especially on weaver. Thats also the reason why the phrase: number skills =\= complexity, Is just not true for ele

Not something to be oversimplified:
- Yes, pushing 1 button for 10k is easier to execute initially. However, a single attack can be avoided easily and all that damage whiffs. A good example was old Strength Spellbreakers before resistance on dodge rolling. They had huge damage coming off of their attacks, but every attack was a single strike. This made it extremely difficult to deal damage through blind spam or aegis spam.
- 10 different strikes for 1k each that requires pushing 3 or 4 buttons to execute may be slightly more complex to combo, but mechanicallythis is not so easy to avoid. The multiple strikes will fight through things like blind spam or aegis spam or even things like shock aura, ensuring that most of the damage lands.
One could say that: "big single strike for 10ks are easier to understand & perform but come with a great deal of risk vs. reward, whereas 10 strike combo at 1k damage each may be more difficult to perform initially, but ultimately ensures that damage lands much more consistently."
Yeah thats a funny theory, thats not feasible to 100% in practice. Stomping on my willbender or untamed is just far easier as on my weaver.
there are some situations though where your points are valid, overall though, performing well on wb or ut is easier. At least in low plat.2
At this point, ranger will be just a better warrior AND a better thief

In the end, people can be very different from each other as demonstrated in this post. Personally, 177 gold for me is fairly easily earned, but I can empathize with the OP just the same; but as I said people can be very different.
What i want to achieve? Keeping cavemen busy with answering my smack talk, preventing them to ungabunga for gold, while passive trading post plays flush in the cash on my side, baby.
if the cavemen stay economical critters, the prices stay high and the inflation low. Basic economics and a classic dr evil plot.UNLIMITED SPENDING POWER.

The comment that started the debate from Asket about earning money said that "casually investing 30 min per day" for a week will earn more than 177g. So that's > 177g in 3.5 hours or 50g per hour. Per hour of casual play that is.
That's very fast. I don't farm hard but from what I've read 30-40 gold per hour is a very good return for doing the top meta chains (which is going to require some organisation to hit at the right time in your casual 30 mins per day). So it's not unreasonable for us to be skeptical.
Turns out Asket makes a lot of their money from the trading post. Obviously that's possible but it's also a pretty niche skill. Furthermore it's zero sum (negative sum actually since the TP takes a cut on every trade) so it's literally impossible for everyone to make money flipping the trading post. It only works so long as most people aren't doing it. I also suspect it takes a lot of time learning enough about how to do it before you reliably earn good money, so a casual 30 mins a day is only going to be possible once you've put in the time to work it all out.
Furthermore, spending 30 mins a day playing the TP is pretty close to not actually playing the game any more. It's basically playing a market and could be any market really, the fact that it's the GW2 market is fairly immaterial. I'm assuming most people playing GW2 actually want to play the game rather than learn how to play a market...
50g per hour is a lot compared to meta chain farm methods, but its not much for TP shenanigans.
As i stated, at some point i only have 30mins per day to play and there are few activities that i enjoy in such a small window, a lot of people dont even start the game for 30 min. I do and prepare for times where i have a 1h+ window. Saying, doing this, is not playing the game is just some bigoted altitude because you prefer to waste time grinding gold.

if live gives you lemons, make elon red and if you gift elon red to a man, you feed him for a day, but teach him how to cook and he will short tyrias homestead market to the ground.

Pretty sure that's the same "advice" on those youtube channels for making $500/week on Etsy... but I'm sure you can't share your awesome secret because "then everyone will do it" so you "just have to figure out your own niche", right?
I'm sure the OP thanks you for your vague and completely useless (read: not true) advice. /eyeroll@BakaNekoQc.1732if you havent reached out to support already, try it - they can be pretty good about this stuff. Twice I've had occasions where I bought the wrong skin and they swapped it for me, so they will if they can.
Also, slow your mouse settings in your devices so that you have to make more of an effort to click and move with the cursor, it might help. Good luck!Ah alright so any information that is not served on a silver plate is useless? Oh boy what a mentality. Thing is, its not hard at all but the biggest barrier is the fact that you need to learn how the gw2 economy works. There is no recipe that always works out perfectly. There will be good and bad weeks.
but alright here to sum it up for you in easy words:
100g capital is enough if you invest up to 90g to get your economy running.
- flip items, dont flip the ones that are on front page of gw2bltc for flipping. Search for items wich are in a stable ROI range of 10-20% at most and which are needed for popular crafts.
- craft items that are high in sell- and buy numbers which have a good roi on buying basemats.
to give you a very precise example that, over the course of few weeks , earned me multiple hundreds of gold:
Buy tons of lentils at buy price.
trade karma for lemons
craft a kitten ton of „elon red“ and sell it at sell price.
(Method works till now)
- always spread your investments on multiple crafts and flips.
- and most important lesson: be patient and let your personal economy build.
cheers dude, have fun earning gold. I‘m Rich, you Know.

How the hell are you making almost 200g a week?
I am doing actually about 500g per week if i do not focus massively on earning gold. They key is finding a routine, that doesn’t burn you out. For me its a mix of crafting and TP trading and for this I invest about 30mins a day. Some days per week, this my only activity ingame, as few ingame activities are fun if you only have a 30 min to spend. It works pretty well for me out, as i usually have the gold available whenever i have more than 30 min to spend and need it. And the most important thing is: i enjoy this 30min, especially as i know it pays off.

I dont understand. How do people feel the need to flex how much gold they make? Sine pople dont have this "make gold now" mindset. Some people actually play the game to chill and get away from the needing to make money grind of RL. I know i do.
OP, best advice i can give you, check your mouse settings. I had an mouse that automatically double clicked (cuz i thought that was useful) turns out its very bad! Check your settings amd disqble double click on click (or however it was called)
Its not about flexing bro, its about showing people whats possible with a reasonable time investment and a little tinkering in terms of efficiency and personal gameplay loop.

To be fair, 177g is not a lot of gold for many players. Its not even a grind, casually investing 30min per day gets you there and beyond in a week. A lot of people have troubles focusing and thats the sole reason, why there are rants about legendaries and old school skyscale acquisition etc.

Spear wasn't competently designed for Elementalist.

My impression was, that sometimes, the final edging wont just hit an enemy, especially volcano seems to bug out on uneven terrain.
the time to „carve“ to the final edging is too short, the short time limits to usage of instant skills if you are in reactive situations as in pvp, which reduces build diversity imo. So either increase the time or reduce the numbers of skills.
While i enjoy the edging mechanic, it feels lackluster on weaver and forces camping elements, this contradicts the idea of weaver, constantly weaving in elements. i would suggest to be able to edge one Element and finish with another. This would result in a far more dynamic playstyle.
After further playsessions, spear on weaver is unfeasible. The intention with the attunement cd reduction is on spot, because making full attuned state more accessible is necessary, but the implementation is lacking. Imo weaver should get unravel without and effects as F5 as class mechanic and the utility reworked into something that provides quickness. Also the spear dual skills need to be of offensive, damaging nature at least sole of them, to trigger trait.

You gotta look carefully, there are few, really lovely guilds of raid vets that host training raids with nothing more than exotic gear. All it takes is proper exotic gear (same stat combinations as in the ascended gear in guides) and practice on the rotation of the specific build. Everything else is practice on the raid mechanics. Preparation time is less than a day.
