Literally nobody on this team is hitting besides Busch. It's depressing.

Busch hitting a Homer in his 5th consecutive game is great. But Nico ho*rner hitting the single to right to start the rally in the 9th and score from 2nd on a wild pitch and then knock in the go ahead run in the 11th was huge. I hope it is just the start of Nico returning to form. Also, Thompson tossing 2 shutout innings in the 10th and 11th innings where each began with a runner on 2nd was huge. The Cubs have desperately needed another dependable arm out of the bullpen and Keegan Thompson has had 2 stellar appearances since being called up. Ben Brown looked very good, even though command issues did cost him a bit, in giving up the only run he surrendered after 2 walks. Happ made the last out with 2 runners on in the 7th, with a runner on 3rd in the 9th and with the bases loaded in the 11th. He is now 2/12 hitting right handed. I sure hope Canario starts in his place tonight.

With a lefty on the mound for Arizona, I expect that Canario will start in RF and Cooper at DH again.

Morel needs a night off more than Happ, so with Hendricks pitching I think we may see Madrigal start at 3B.

This should be Hendricks last start. No reason to keep him around with the way Assad and Brown are throwing.

I can't see them releasing him on something like $14M. I think a phantom IL stint is more likely after he f*cks up tonight.

I didn't understand why they exercised the option in the first place. Imanaga wasn't in the fold yet, but they could have easily gotten a Seth Lugo or Michael Lorenzen for half the money and then gone out and gotten one more lefty reliever or an upgrade at the 4th OF/DH over Tauchman.

If Hendricks struggles yet again, I envision the "sore shoulder" trip to the IL. They won't waive him, as he still represents at least a depth piece in case of a rash of injuries to starting pitchers.

I actually liked your suggestion of Madrigal at 3rd, as Hendricks when right gets a lot of ground balls. But Morel hits lefties well, so I would still have him DH.
Hendricks has had real issues and as much as he has done for the team, I feel anything but confident when he takes the mound now.

Man don't do that to a guy like him. He sucks but he deserves respect. You tell the man then the league that he's on the market. Cubs might eat some cash but it's whats best for the team that made him a go zillianaire. He's a professional. He knows.

What's best for the team is maintaining depth. Otherwise Hendricks and Smyly would both have been dealt or released. They need to have guys able to take the spot if starters go down. Same is true for position players. Guys out of options get a roster spot that maybe should go to another player, but that guy still has minor league options. Canario should have made the team out of spring training, but he still had options and so he went down. It can really be frustrating as a fan. For the player getting sent down it has to really suck.

If the cubs can turn a Dempster into a Hendricks a few years later I think nows the time to get prospects for a guy like Hendricks. That's how the cubs can sustain success long term. Hendricks isn't a lost cause he has a role on some team somewhere. It's time to let go of that last 16 guy. I really think that's the source of a lot of fascination about him.

The sore shoulder IL trip should follow this outing. Can't continue to give him the ball when Taillon and Steele will be coming off the IL. He just doesn't give the team a good chance to win at this point.

That first time I saw their cable cam or whatever it's called i thought it was kind of cool. Now I think it's a sucky gimmick.

I wouldn't bet against the Cubs, because I can't see rooting against them, ever. But I sure wouldn't bet on them in this game, just because of Hendricks. Their pitcher isn't real good, with an ERA around 6, but Hendricks is over 12 and Arizona is a good hitting team.

Why not add in a triple, you know, for good measure.

Poor hitting by Swansonmaking an unproductive out, failing to at least advance the runner. But no worries, Ballinger picks him up with a triple and gives the Cubs the lead, with a great chance to add on, with a runner on 3rd and just 1 out.

Poor job by Morel, to not put the ball I play to get the run in. Unfortunate.

The bottom of the 5th has been anightmare. Hendricks fell apart, then Little is crazy wild and Amaya can't block pitches. Far from over, but not looking great.

Been a fun series. Very punch counterpunch.

Nice seeing Little sent packing and the Hayden called up.
