I grew up eating pigs in a blanket and it is such a fun recipe. With just 2 common ingredients, you can make these in minutes.

The prep work is minimum and they come together fast. Just wrap one crescent triangle around each hot dog.

It is so versatile and everyone always loves these easy pigs in a blanket recipe.

Ingredients for pigs in a blanket

  • Refrigerated Crescent Rolls – You can also make Homemade Crescent Rolls.
  • Hot Dogs

How to make pigs in a blanket with crescent rolls

  • First, pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Oven temperatures vary so you may need to set yours at 350 degrees.
  • While you are waiting to preheat oven, go ahead and open the crescent rolls and separate them into triangles.
  • Then, roll the crescents around the hot dogs starting at the wide end of the triangle and roll.

  • Put them on an ungreased cookie sheet seam with the croissant dough side down. You can line with parchment paper.

  • Finally, bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the crescent roll dough is slightly golden brown. They are delicious with ketchup and mustard and served warmed.

  • Mini Pigs in a Blanket. We love making these for parties. You can also make these with little smokies and cut the crescent rolls in half to make mini pigs in a blanket. If you don’t have little smokies, you can just cut the hot dog into smaller triangles.
  • Breakfast Sausage. Use sausage links to turn this into the perfect breakfast or brunch menu item. You can use the full size or cut them into small pieces to make mini ones.

    Just make sure you are using precooked sausage. If not, they will need to be cooked before baking to ensure they are cooked thoroughly.

  • Biscuit Dough. Substitute biscuits instead of crescent rolls. Just flatten the biscuit and roll it out with a rolling pin. Cut into strips if you making mini ones.

    If not, just use the entire biscuit to wrap the hot dog in. If you prefer that some of the hot dog stay uncovered, cut the biscuit in half.

  • Puff Pastry. Another tasty substitution for crescent rolls is puff pastry. Top with egg wash for a flaky crust.
  • Cheese. You can add cheese to each pigs in a blanket. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on the hot dog before wrapping or place a thin slice of American or pepper jack cheese beside the hot dog. Either way, it will be delicious.
  • Bacon. Add bacon to the hot dog and wrap the crescent rolls around it. I think the bacon would be good with cheese too.
  • Top with sesame seeds or poppy seeds. Jazz them up for parties by sprinkling a few sesame or poppy seeds on top before baking. Bagel seasoning on co*cktail sausages it also a delicious option.
  • Brush with Garlic Butter – Right before you bake them, brush the crescent dough with garlic butter.
  • Vegetarian option: You can use veggie dogs to make this recipe vegetarian.

Yes, you can. Just make them as normal and place on a baking sheet.

Cover the pan with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until you are ready to bake.

Storage for leftovers:

  • Cover leftovers with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container and put in the fridge. They will last up to 3 days stored properly in the refrigerator.
  • To reheat, pop in the microwave for a few seconds until heated through. If you prefer them crispier, reheat in the oven for 4 to 5 minutes.
